Michael Thorness, a Texas Tech alumni, brings extensive experience in accounting and auditing from his roles at Schlumberger, Cameron, and Superior Energy Services, as well as financial analysis experience from his time at Convergence Financial.

About

Michael Thorness is a seasoned finance and accounting professional with a wealth of experience in the oil and gas industry. As the Controller and CFO of B&J Wholesale, Thorness oversees the company's financial strategies and accounting operations, playing a key role in driving the company's financial health and sustainable growth.

Before his current role at B&J Wholesale, Thorness demonstrated his exceptional leadership and financial acumen as an Accounting Manager for Superior Energy Services. There, he managed the company's centralized accounting group, steering the accounting operations across several regions and taking charge of the successful implementation of a new ERP (Microsoft D365) system.

Thorness honed his auditing skills as a Senior Internal Auditor for Superior Energy Services, conducting thorough audits for the company’s North American and international divisions. He also led audits of overseas business units in India, Argentina, and Colombia, with a focus on SOX compliance and major capital projects.

Prior to joining Superior Energy Services, Thorness was an integral part of Schlumberger, Cameron International. As a Senior Financial Analyst, he demonstrated his financial expertise by maintaining segment-level P&L forecasts and budgets, and leading a significant effort to reduce DSO by an impressive 29 days in Q1 2017. His other roles at Schlumberger, including as an Internal Auditor and Project Accountant, further solidified his reputation as a detail-oriented and strategic financial leader.

Beginning his career as an Operations Analyst at Select Energy Services, Thorness showed his ability to analyze and optimize business operations from the start. At Convergent Capital, he performed valuations for mid-size oil & gas companies and created purchase price allocations, demonstrating his comprehensive understanding of financial and business valuation.

Thorness is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the Texas Society of CPAs, the Houston CPA Society, and the Institute of Internal Auditors. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Texas Tech University. Michael Thorness is a forward-thinking leader whose deep industry knowledge, strategic vision, and financial expertise have been instrumental in steering B&J Wholesale and the companies he has served towards significant success.
